Derek is a partner and co-founder at Clique Studios, a design and technology studio he helped start back in college. The team has since won 90+ industry awards, including being named a Best and Brightest Place to Work.
As a songwriter, he’s released 3 EP’s as a solo artist and was named “5 Chicago Songwriters to Watch” By American Songwriter Magazine. He’s also released two LP’s with Martin Van Ruin, a 7-piece collective who the Chicago Sun-Times called a “folk rock supergroup” with “inescapable Bob Dylan and Neil Young comparisons.”
As an occasional writer, he’s been published by Entrepreneur Magazine and a few other places.
Before that, Derek was an organizer on the ‘08 Obama campaign, a designer for the University of Missouri, a bookstore clerk, a house painter for one of those college painting companies, and a waiter at a retirement home. He lives in Chicago with his wife, Lauren, and two sons, Henry and Nico.
